Terms of Service

By loading GraffitiWorld you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. You must be at least 13 years old to play, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live.

GraffitiWorld is a game. It renders a stylised three-dimensional map of the world built from open map data, and lets players leave virtual paint on it. Nothing you do here touches any physical building or any real-world property.

The map is generated from OpenStreetMap data and may be inaccurate, out of date, or incomplete. Building shapes and heights are approximations. Do not rely on it for navigation or for any decision that matters.

The appearance of a real place in the game is not a claim about it and does not imply any association with, or endorsement by, its owners or occupants.

You can play anonymously. If you create an account you are responsible for keeping your password safe and for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else is using it.

One person, one account. Creating additional accounts to get around the daily paint allowance, a ban, or any other limit is a breach of these terms.

You are responsible for what you paint and write. Do not create, upload or transmit anything that:

• is illegal, or promotes or facilitates illegal activity;
• promotes hatred, violence or discrimination against people on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, age, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation;
• harasses, bullies, threatens or intimidates anyone;
• is sexually explicit, or depicts or sexualises a minor in any way;
• depicts graphic violence or cruelty, or celebrates a tragedy or terrorist act;
• infringes anyone’s copyright, trade mark or other rights;
• reveals private information about another person, such as their home address, phone number or workplace;
• impersonates another person, or misrepresents your affiliation with anyone;
• is spam, advertising, or a link to malware or a deceptive site.

Painting hateful or obscene marks on a real, identifiable place (a place of worship, a school, a memorial, or someone’s home) is treated as targeted harassment and will be removed.

Do not:

• use bots, scripts or automation to paint, or to submit strokes by any means other than playing the game;
• attempt to bypass the paint tank and its refill rate, the rate limits, or any other restriction;
• interfere with, overload, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to the service, its APIs or its infrastructure;
• systematically scrape the map, or resell access to it;
• deliberately paint over other players’ work purely to destroy it, at scale.

You keep whatever rights you have in what you paint. Because the game is a shared public canvas, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce and display it as part of the service, and to use screenshots of the map to promote the game. This licence exists so we can legally show your paint to other players; it ends when your paint is removed, except for copies in backups and in promotional material already published.

Paint is not private property within the game. Anyone can paint over anything, including your work. That is a deliberate design decision, not a fault.

The site itself, including its code, design and name, belongs to us. Map data is © OpenStreetMap contributors, used under the Open Database Licence.

We may remove any paint or message, and suspend or permanently ban any player, where we reasonably believe these terms have been broken. Serious breaches (illegal content, sexual content involving minors, targeted harassment) result in an immediate permanent ban without warning.

Bans may be enforced against your account, and against the device and network you play from, so that they cannot be trivially evaded. The Privacy Policy explains how that works.

If you find paint or a message that breaks these rules, or that infringes your rights, report it to tonyginkle@gmail.com. Include a link or the coordinates shown in the corner of the map so we can find it.

We review reports promptly and remove anything that breaches these terms. If you are a rights holder and something here infringes your copyright, tell us what the work is, where it appears, and how to reach you, and we will take it down.

The game is provided as-is and free of charge. We do not promise it will always be available, that paint will never be lost, or that the game will continue to exist. We may change or discontinue features at any time.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the game, or for content posted by other players. Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those exclusions do not apply to you.

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to play after a change means you accept the new version.
