A 3D alternative to wplace

Same idea, painting the real world with other people. Different dimension.

If you came here from wplace, the short version is this: wplace is a 2D pixel canvas over a world map, where you place one pixel at a time on a grid. GraffitiWorld is a 3D world you can fly and walk through, where you spray paint onto the real surfaces of buildings: the walls, the rooftops, the street. Paint wraps around corners, and anything standing in front of it hides it, because it is on the geometry rather than on a layer above the map.

Details about wplace are summarised from its public site and documentation and were last checked in July 2026. It is actively developed, so some of it will have moved on. If something here is out of date, tell us and it gets corrected.

Which one you probably want

These are different games and the honest answer is that it depends what you enjoyed.

  • If you liked the pixel-art side, meaning coordinating with a crowd, building a flag or a mascot square by square, and defending it from being overwritten, that is what wplace and the wider r/place lineage are built around, and it does it well.
  • If you liked finding your own street and wanted to actually paint the building rather than the map square on top of it, that is what this is. You can stand at street level in front of a wall you know and tag it.

Plenty of people play both. Nothing here needs you to stop playing anything else.

What painting in 3D actually changes

The extra dimension changes what a piece can be.

  • Scale is physical. A brush size is metres, not pixels, so a tag is as big as it would be in life, and your paint budget is surface area for the same reason.
  • Occlusion is real. Paint on the far side of a building is hidden until you fly around it, so a piece can be deliberately placed where only people at street level will see it.
  • Surfaces have shape, so a stroke follows a wall around a corner, up a rooftop parapet, or across a road.
  • There is no grid to align to, so lettering, fills and outlines behave like paint rather than like a mosaic.

Common questions

Is GraffitiWorld the same as wplace?

No. Both let you paint on a map of the real world, but wplace is a flat 2D pixel canvas where you place one pixel at a time, and GraffitiWorld is a 3D world where you spray paint onto the actual surfaces of buildings: walls, rooftops and streets. GraffitiWorld is not affiliated with wplace.

Is there a 3D version of wplace?

Not from wplace itself. GraffitiWorld is a separate, independent game that works in 3D: you fly or walk through a model of the real world built from open map data and spray paint directly onto buildings, rather than filling squares on a grid.

Do I need an account to play GraffitiWorld?

No. You can open the map and start painting immediately, and paint made without an account is just as permanent. An account only adds a record of your work: XP, levels, a profile and a place on the leaderboard.

Is GraffitiWorld free?

Yes. The game is free to play in any modern browser with no download. There are optional paint packs and subscriptions, but nothing is required to paint.

How much can I paint?

You carry a paint tank measured in surface area, 12,500 square metres by default. It refills continuously rather than resetting on a clock, taking about 4 hours to go from empty to full, and both the size of the tank and the refill speed can be upgraded.

Try it, it takes a click

No download, no sign-up. The map opens at street level and you can paint straight away.
